What you'll need:
- Colored or patterned paper
- Scissors
- Tape
- String, twine, or ribbon
Instructions:
Step 1: Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half like a book, so that the long edge of the paper meets the long edge on the opposite side. Cut the paper along the fold, so you now have two separate rectangular pieces of paper.
Step 2: Take one of the rectangular pieces of paper and fold it in half, so the short sides meet. Cut along the fold, creating two identical square pieces of paper. Repeat this step with the other rectangular piece of paper.
Step 3: Take one square piece of paper and fold it in half diagonally, so that the two opposite corners meet. Unfold the paper, and you should see a line running from one corner to the other, forming an “X” shape. Repeat this step with the other square piece of paper.
Step 4: Take one of the square pieces of paper and fold it in half along one of the creases you just made. Cut from the folded edge up to the center point where the two creases meet. Repeat this step with the other square piece of paper.
Step 5: Take one of the square pieces of paper and fold the two triangles created by the cuts inward, so that their outer edges touch each other. The paper should now be flat and have a diamond shape. Repeat this step with the other square piece of paper.
Step 6: Place one diamond-shaped piece of paper on a flat surface so that the point of the diamond shape is facing upwards. Fold the left and right edges of the diamond towards the center point, so that they meet in the middle. Repeat this step with the other diamond-shaped piece of paper.
Step 7: Take one of the folded diamond-shaped pieces of paper and flip it over so that the folded edges face downwards. Position the other diamond-shaped piece of paper on top of it, so that their folded edges meet in the center. Tape the two pieces of paper together at the center point.
Step 8: Turn the paper wall hanging over so that the point of the diamond shape is facing upwards again. Cut six pieces of string, twine, or ribbon that are all the same length. Fold one piece of string in half, and tape the folded end to the center point of the diamond shape, so that the two loose ends of the string hang downward. Repeat this process with the remaining five pieces of string, attaching them to the diamond shape like spokes on a wheel, evenly spaced around the center point.
Step 9: Take another square piece of paper and cut it into strips that are all the same length and width. The exact dimensions do not matter too much, as long as they are roughly the same size. Repeat this step with the remaining square piece of paper.
Step 10: Tie one paper strip around one of the six strings, about an inch or two below the taped center point. Fold the strip in half and tape the loose ends of the strip to itself, so that it creates a loop around the string. Repeat this step with the other paper strips and strings, spacing them out evenly around the center point of the paper wall hanging. Make sure the paper strips are all tied at the same height on each string, so that they create a level and uniform fringe around the edge of the diamond shape.
If desired, you can now decorate the paper wall hanging with additional embellishments, like glitter, beads, or sequins. You can also experiment with different colors and patterns to make your paper wall hanging totally unique and personalized.
